Discovering meaning and purpose

Welcome to Robert Foley Therapy. Learn more about my journey, my unique approach to therapy, and how I can support you in navigating life's challenges and finding your path to well-being.

My journey to therapy

I worked for many years as an educator and researcher specialising in philosophy and psychology. In 2019, I decided I wanted to work in a field where I could have a more direct impact on people's lives and well-being. Volunteering for a crisis support line during the pandemic confirmed for me that I wanted to be a therapist. I have an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy from Dublin City University. My training involved multiple therapeutic approaches and integrating them to meet clients' specific needs. I'm a pre-accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP). As part of this, I actively engage in regular continuous professional development and supervision to ensure that my practice is ethical and effective.

My therapeutic philosophy

I believe therapy can offer people a contained space where they can discover what well-being, purpose, and meaning-in-life look like for them. At the centre of this process is the relationship between the therapist and client. My focus is always on the client’s unique experience and specific needs. I use a humanistic and integrative relational approach. I incorporate elements of Gestalt, Psychodynamic, Existential, and Body Work approaches to collaboratively meet clients’ needs in a compassionate and non-judgemental way.

Areas of specialisation

I work with individual adult clients on a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, grief, relationship issues, identity, and trauma. I have a particular interest and expertise in Trauma-Informed Therapy, Neurodivergence, Body Work, and Mindfulness. My goal is to create a supportive environment where you can address these challenges and move towards a more fulfilling life.
